Just a couple of weeks ago I posted photos from Amy’s maternity session. Well, I was honored to meet Baby Ava on the 29th of January! She had her own idea about the way she entered this world and did not agree with mommy’s all natural birth plan. She remained breached so c section was scheduled. At first, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be allowed into the operating room and that I would just have to send in my Daddy Cam (my back up camera with daddy) but the medical team was amazing and trusted my experience and work ethic and allowed me to enter the OR. It was a little bit surreal to be back in the room again (the same room my son was born just over 6 years earlier). I was super excited. Amy did so great despite her fears and worries. In no time the doctor called me over to come right next to her to ensure I did not miss the big moment. I never in a million years expected to come this close to table but it was AMAZING. I am ever so grateful for the staff working with me to create the birth story capturing every moment of the whole process.
From the day I met Ryan and Amy, I knew that it was going to be an emotional birth and that the images meant so much to them. I was so excited to reveal the slideshow to both of them at the day of their newborn session. I made sure to start the newborn session by playing the above clip and as I expected, they both cried making me very emotional as well. I love seeing the reaction to the finished product!
Birth photography is so special to me and despite the hard work and the 4 weeks on call period when I do not leave my house without my camera bag, when my husband and sitter is on speed dial in case they have to pick my son up from school… despite the long hours spent at the hospital waiting for labor to progress… I love birth photography! It holds a very special place in my heart. Getting to know the hospital staff and gaining their trust means everything, it makes me so proud to be one of the RAF Lakenheath Birth Photographers.
Due to the very special nature of birth photography, I limit the number of sessions booked during the year so please book in advance to ensure I am able to take on the booking. I normally book birth sessions approximately 6 months before due date. I know it seems really early but I give everything to my birth clients, I have to reduce the number of other sessions around the due date as well as notify other clients that I am on call for a birth. Unless there is a health issue (I am sick or unwell to the point of it being a concern to the mom’s or baby’s health for me to document the birth when I would request for my back up photographer to take over the session) I will be there for you throughout the whole process :).
