Oliver’s Birth Part 1 – Okinawa Birth Photography

I decided to split this post into two parts as it would have been a photo overload for one post.

I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet mommy back in July. It was her baby shower day and we just met for a quick chat to discuss all the details for the birth and newborn sessions. As every shoot, her birth shoot meant a lot to me, even more as a military spouse. Her husband was deployed and there was a high chance of him missing the birth of their son. Situations like this break my heart, but I know there’s not much we can do about it.  As August was coming to the end, I was getting more and more excited to be there for her to document this big event. I had my phone on all the time and would not leave the house without my camera bag… I got the call as I was meeting some fellow photographers for our monthly get togethers. As soon as I was told to head over to the hospital, I made arrangements for my husband to pick my son up from school and take him home and just not wait for me.

I got to the hospital soon after midday on Thursday to find mommy being prepared for epidural already. I got some of the details shots while they administered the epidural and as soon as she was in less pain we just waited. Watched some shows on TV and just chatted and waited… and waited… Oliver was in no rush to come out. The wonderful Nurses and Doctors tried to speed things up with some petocin, but with not much luck, so we waited…

… to be continued ;)
